The bundle-only mock exam: Antarctica
A complete Paper 1 in the 2027 layout, built to be sat in two hours once the units are finished. It has three brand-new texts on one theme, so students meet the paper exactly as they will in June:
- Text A, “The oldest ice on Earth”: scientists drill 2,800 metres into Antarctica to recover ice more than a million years old (Question 1).
- Text B, “Why I still take people to the ice”: a polar guide weighs up the case against Antarctic tourism (Question 2 summary and writer’s attitude).
- Text C, “Into the white”: a nineteen-year-old kitchen assistant’s first voyage south (Question 3 and the Question 4 talk).
- A full teacher mark scheme for all 80 marks: what to accept and what not to credit, the levels for 2, 3(c), 3(d) and 4, and model answers.
The mock uses completely different questions from the timed tests inside the units, so students are tested on genuinely unseen material.
