Year 10 Weekly Group
About the course
Build a strong foundation well before the exam. The Year 10 Weekly Group is for students sitting Cambridge IGCSE First Language English (0500/0990) in 2028.
Each week there is one live 75-minute lesson on Google Meet. Skills are taught one step at a time: I explain the skill, show a worked example, and then students practise with support. Every fortnight students complete a piece of writing that I mark with personal feedback.
The group continues into Year 11, so students stay with the same teacher all the way to the exam.
What’s included
- One live 75-minute lesson every week
- A marked piece of writing every fortnight, with written feedback
- The lesson slides and practice tasks after every lesson
- A small group of no more than 6 students
- Everything written for the 2027–2029 syllabus
The first block: Paper 1 reading (6 lessons)
The first block concentrates on Paper 1 reading: short answers, summary and writer’s effect. Each skill gets two lessons, so there is time to learn it, practise it and improve it, rather than rushing through everything at once.
| Lesson | What we cover |
|---|---|
| 1 | Reading closely: explicit and implicit meaning |
| 2 | Short-answer questions and vocabulary in context Marked piece |
| 3 | Summary: finding and selecting the right points |
| 4 | Summary: writing the points in your own words Marked piece |
| 5 | Writer’s effect: choosing powerful words and explaining their meaning |
| 6 | Writer’s effect: building a full, developed answer Marked piece |
The route to the exam
The group works through the course one block at a time, so each area gets the time it needs. You book one block of 6 lessons at a time.

Who it’s for
Students in Year 10 (or equivalent) who will sit the exam in 2028, at UK and international schools or studying at home. Lessons support students who find English harder and stretch those aiming for the top grades.
Questions
When are the lessons?
The lesson time will be confirmed in January 2027. When you register, tell me your time zone and the times that suit you.
Do we have to commit for the whole year?
No. You book one block of 6 lessons at a time, and can choose whether to continue before each new block.
What if my child misses a lesson?
You’ll receive the slides and tasks for that lesson so your child can catch up.
What if not enough students sign up?
A group runs with at least 3 students. If it doesn’t fill, you’ll be offered another option or a full refund.
What if the group is full?
If a group fills up, I’ll open another group at a different time where there is enough interest, or offer you the first place that becomes available.
How do I pay?
Each block is paid in full before it starts. There is nothing to pay to register your interest.
Want a place?
Register your interest now. You’ll hear first when bookings open in January, before places are offered to anyone else.
